CONGRATULATTIONS PEUGEOT 208!

The big favourite Tesla Model 3 did not manage to win the title Car of the year for 2020. Instead, the Peugeot 208 received the most votes from the 60 jurors from 23 countries and the brand also won for the third time in seven years.

The Geneva Motor show was cancelled due to the Covid-19 spread in Europe. However, the Car of the year jury, along with the initial organizer of the salon, announced the winner of the Car of the year 2020 digitally.

The vote was not quite as exciting as it was a year ago, when the Jaguar I-Pace had the spotlight. Instead, the Peugeot 208 took an early grip on the prize and despite several jury members giving many points to electric car competitors Tesla Model 3 and Porsche Taycan, the Peugeot 208 was able to win by a total of 281 points, ahead of the Model 3 and Taycan.

Peugeot 208 is sold with several different types of engines and among other things, the electric car e-208 is in the program. The fact that the same base plate can be used both for electric operation and for a traditional internal combustion engine means that the car is suitable for many different countries. This and also the fact that the 208 is a relatively cheap also became crucial.

For the Car of the year 2020 competition, a total of 30 cars were on the Car of the Year jury’s list of possible winners. The cars that qualify for the prestigious competition  are cars that were models  presented as brand new in 2019, models that the jury had an opportunity to test drive and models that are available for purchase in at least five markets in Europe.
