The registrations of rechargeable vehicles hit record levels during October 2020. Today, 36% of all new purchases are electric cars, a record that is standing strong according to industry giants such as Tesla, Polestar and Volkswagen.

So far, during 2020, a total of 66.730 electric vehicles has been registered in Sweden. This is an increase of 113% or 35.410 cars from last year. According to several car dealers in Sweden, the huge interest in buying an electric car or plug-in hybrid car is growing each day, at lightning speed. This record is for a single month only, and also significantly higher in proportion if you compare to October last year. During October 2019, the amount of rechargeable cars could be amounted to 11.8%, according to Swedish BilSverige.

As the registrations of electric vehicles has increased, the registration of new passenger cars has decreased by 5% in October 2020 compared with October last year. An even greater reduction can be identified on light trucks, which decreased by 11.1 percent in October 2020 compared to the same month 2019.

According to Swedish BilSverige, Sweden is one of the few countries in the EU that reduced its carbon dioxide emissions from new passenger cars in 2019. In order to keep this positive trend of reduced carbon dioxide emissions, the instruments for rechargeable cars must be maintained, developed and encouraged in order to keep these positive record numbers we are seeing in the electric vehicle area.
